A petite girl sat on the enormous, plush maroon couch, coloring in her giant coloring book about animals and cartoon characters. It was a Saturday morning, and Mysteria was waiting for her dad to finish making breakfast to go to the store. She began to hear the sizzling of eggs and vegetables when there was a knock on the door.
Placing her coloring book to the side, she wiggled out off of the couch. “I got the door, Daddy!” She called out as she made her way to it, opening the door to see a rather tall, slim woman with long, raven black hair. She wore a red, casual dress and she had painted her face with makeup that complimented her facial features and complexion. She looked beautiful, but something about her didn’t seem right to Mysteria.
“Hello.” The woman greeted. Mysteria blinked, noticing that the lady had a basket of baked goods. I bet those aren’t as good as Dad’s. She thought before staring back up at the lady.
“Hi. What are you doing in my house? I don’t know you.” Mysteria replied to her greeting.
The woman gave her a small, tight smile. She examined the little girl before her, seeing that she was wearing a frilly pink dress, with a pink bow in her hair to match her outfit. The only thing out of place were her shoes. Mysteria’s shoes were old, worn out Converse that was an eyesore to the general public, but not to the owner.
“Is there a man named Hibiki here, little girl?” The woman asked, attempting to peek inside. Mysteria tilted her head in confusion.
“You mean my dad? He’s busy right now… Are you his friend, lady?” Mysteria questioned, beginning to get territorial.
The woman raised her eyebrows with the information given to her. “Your… Dad?” She asked through gritted teeth.
Mysteria crossed her arms. “Yeah, he’s my dad, lady. What do you want?!”
The woman dismissed the fact that the man she was interested in had an unexpected daughter, and instead offered the basket to the small girl. “Can you give this to your father, dear? Tell him it’s from his friend, Jane.”
Mysteria struggled a bit to carry the basket, but took it in both hands as she looked up at the lady. “Okay, lady. Can you go now?” She asked, already wanting to get into the safety of her home.
Jane gave Mysteria a cold smile. “The name’s Jane. Oh, and by the way, proper girls don’t wear… those type of shoes.”
Mysteria looked down at her feet to look at her Converse, and began to get angry. “I don’t care what you think, lady. I love my shoes! I’ll wear them because I want to wear them!!” She exclaimed, quickly getting inside and closing the door on the woman before she got a chance to say anything.
Hibiki poked his head out of the kitchen as Mysteria set the basket on the dinning table. “Who was it, Misty?” Hibiki asked, noticing the basket.
The small girl huffed, defiantly taking a bread and took a bite out of it. “A lady.”
Hibiki continued to cook, listening to Mysteria. “A lady? Was it a woman named Jane?”
The seven year old almost choked on the bread, but coughed out a shaky “Yeah”.
“Why didn’t you let her in? She could’ve joined us for breakfast!” He said with a pout.
“She just came to give us the basket. I think she was busy or something.” Mysteria lied, stuffing her face with the rest of the bread that she was eating.
“Misty!! Don’t ruin your appetite!” Hibiki exclaimed worriedly. “Why are you eating the bread so suddenly??”
Mysteria gulped down the food, turning to look at Hibiki with the utmost serious face, crumbs all over her mouth.
“I’m trying to see if they’re poisoned!” She called out truthfully. Hibiki broke out into laughter.
“Jane wouldn’t think of poisoning us! She’s a nice person!”
Mysteria clenched her jaw at the thought of the enemy. Nice? Yeah, right.
“Hey Mysteria, do you know what the heck happened to Asher?!” A frantic Airyan asked, video calling with the female athlete. In the background, Asher was obnoxiously and loudly singing a song he just made up, sounding like he’s running around. His figure could be seen occasionally behind Airyan. “I got BEES!! Busy busy BEES! I wanna see a Queen Bee!! Beyonce is a QUEEN! I need a washing MA-CHINE!”
Mysteria ran a hand through her hair. “Earlier he got a cup of coffee and mix it with RedBull.” She explained. “Make sure he doesn’t get hurt, okay?”
“Wait, he did WHAT?!” Airyan began to freak out as Asher ran across behind him again. “Why did he do that?!”
“He needed to stay awake for practice he had earlier for a competition. The poor dummy had no choice apparently.”
Airyan opened his mouth to say something, but the video suddenly blurred. “Hey!!” Asher held the phone dangerously close to his eye, quickly and loudly speaking, “Who are you talking to, Airyan bro??”
It took Asher a second to see that it was his girlfriend, but once he did, he broke out into a giant, goofy grin. Mysteria let out a sigh. “It’s me, you dork.” She responded before flinching as Asher let out a howl.
“Oooooooooooh my GOD!” He exclaimed, trying to fight off Airyan for the phone while he ran. “Babe, I feel so awesome right now! All this energy makes me feel like I can do so many things!! Look, I’m even outrunning Airyan! I- WHOA!”
Asher suddenly tripped and the phone was dropped, leaving Mysteria to stare at the ceiling. A moment later, Airyan looked down at the phone.
“I’ll call you back. Asher is trying to get more coffee.”
Asher was wailing in the background. “Nooooooo, give me!! I’ll dieee without it!!” Airyan shot a concerned look over at Asher’s direction.
“Right. Take care of him for me.” Mysteria said, before Airyan yelled, “Hey, don’t run over there, you’ll break something!!” Then the video call ended shortly after.
Mysteria let out a big sigh, looking at the clock on the wall. Anytime now the effects should be wearing off. Hopefully Airyan can handle Asher.
Mysteria was tying her Converse to get ready to go to an interview , when she heard the vibration coming from her phone. She looked at the screen and saw that it was Airyan.
Opening up the message, she saw the picture sent to her and laughed out loud. Asher was sprawled on the floor of the studio, but someone made him comfortable by covering him up with a jacket and made a makeshift pillow from another jacket that was placed under his head. Next to him was Airyan, crouching but facing the camera with a tight smile, as if saying “I can’t believe you made me deal with him right now”. He was pointing a finger at Asher.
Mysteria texted Airyan, smiling as she did.
Mysteria: Aw, he looks so tired…
Airyan: I hope he’s knocked out. Anymore of his craziness and I would’ve lost it.
Mysteria: But… Why is he on the floor? Can’t you get him on a sofa or something?
Asher: Ugh, fine.
Mysteria took the opportunity to start heading out to the press conference, only getting the chance to cross the street before Airyan texted her back.
Asher: I got him on the sofa. He started to snore. Totally knocked out.
Mysteria: Let him sleep, he definitely needs it.
The girl continued to walk down the sidewalk and entered the downtown area, until she felt her phone vibrate again.
Airyan: Asher is holding onto me…
Airyan: He doesn’t want to let go.
Airyan: Why is this happening to me?!
Mysteria raised an eyebrow before a photo was sent. She opened it and laughed.
Asher was laying on the sofa and Airyan was sitting on the edge of it, giving the camera, an utter look of disgust and annoyance as a joke. Sure enough, Asher’s arms were tightly wrapped around his waist as he continued to sleep.
Mysteria: Don’t wake him up!
Airyan: What?! I have STUFF TO DO!!
Mysteria: Wake him up and I will beat the living crap outta you!
Asher: But Mysteria!
Mysteria: Airyan, you spineless wimp, if I find out you woke him up I swear you will scream yourself hoarse once I get my hands on you
Airyan: Okay, okay, sheesh.=3=
Airyan: Maybe I should get you to be my bodyguard ;D
Mysteria: Oh shut up.
Mysteria led Asher to the stadium seats that were closest to the field. Airyan was already in his seat, with both feet propped up on the seat in front of him.
As the pair approached, Mysteria sighed loudly. “Would you look at that! The singing dork is here!” She said equally as loud. Airyan turned toaards them before standing up.
“Back at you, baseball nerd!”
Mysteria rolled her eyes. “Yeah, yeah. Anyways, Airyan, meet my friend Asher. Asher… well, you kinda already know this punk.”
Asher chuckled as Airyan huffed, before nodding at Asher. Mysteria smiled and waved at them. “I’m going to practice, you two stay put till I come back!” She called out behind her as she ran to the locker rooms.
“Later Mysteria!” Asher yelled out as he waved back, turning to look at a rather menacing Airyan.
“So, you and Mysteria are-” Asher began with a nervous smile before he stlpped abruptly.
Airyan was beginning to pull up his sleeves, looking like he was ready to kill Asher.
“I heard you tackled my cousin to the ground.” He said simply in a threatening tone. Asher immediately raised his hands up in defense, shakig his head.
“Okay, first off, let me just say your cousin is stubborn as heck! I was trying to help her walk when she was injured and she fell and I tried catching her but she wouldn’t let me, then we both ended up on the floor!” Asher explained quickly, bracing himself for the worst.
Airyan blinked and stopped what he was doing. “Wait, she’s stubborn to you too?!”
Asher opened an eye and looked at Airyan. “‘You too?’ You mean, she’s like that with you?”
Airyan blew a raspberry. “All the time! I can’t believe she actually got stubborn with you!”
Asher took a seat next to Airyan as they continued to talk about the green haired athlete. “One time she threatened to smack me with her bat when I almost spilled chocolate ice cream on her white uniform during a game.” Airyan said, eating a handful of shell-less peanuts.
Asher took some peanuts from his bag and started to take the shell off. “Wow, remind me not to eat chocolate ice cream near her at a game.”
Airyan nodded, poppig some peanuts into his mouth. “What about you?”
“Hm… There was this one time when Mysteria pulled me out of the train just so we can buy bubblegum. We were both late to our practices, though Mysteria didn’t seem to care.” He recalled, proppin his feet the same way Airyan was doing.
The two guys continued to talk about their unfortunate encounters with Mysteria’s stubbornness, even long after baseball practice was over. They continued to talk about random things, slowly becoming best friends.
“Maybe I can perform to one of your songs, Airyan.” Asher was saying enthusiastically as Mysteria was leading them out oc the stadium, swinging her bat a few times while she listened to the conversation.
“It would be an honor to watch tou perform. Though, can you do that next month? I’m jam-packed in my schedule right now…”
Before Asher got a chance to respond, Mysteria blew a raspberry. “If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve thought you two were dating.” She joked. “Airyan, you’d make such a cute girlfriend!”
“What?! Mysteria, I swear-” Airyan began to chase after Mysteria, who sprinted ahead. Asher sighed and laughed, running after them.
Asher was sitting on Airyan’s living room floor, wearing pajama pants and a white t-shirt, while Airyan was dressed in a similar fashion. It was dark out, and Airyan was getting a midnight snack of popcorn. The living room was a victim of Asher and Airyan’s pillow fight. There was pillows and blankets covering the floor, and the furtniture was slightly unorganized, with cushiond thrown in the empty spaces of the room.
Rubbing his head, Airyan pouted as he walked back to Asher with a large bowll of popcorn. “Asher, for a fancy footwork man, you sure can smack hard.” He complained. Asher chuckled while Airyan sat down.
“I hope that’s just you trying to make me feel macho.”
Airyan laughed nervously, remembering something that happened a while back. “Did I ever told you about the time Mysteria slapped me for being depressed?” He asked with an embarrassed smile.
Asher was getting some popcorn and was beginning to eat it, before he suddenly began to choke. “What?!”
“Okay, so I was dumped by my girlfriend, andd it was my fiirst breakup and whatever. I was depressed, didn’t want to sing,” Airyan laughed slightly at Asher’s dramatic gasp. “I didn’t want to do anything, basically. Mysteria found out about this and she.. smacked some sense into me.”
“She… what?” Asher asked, confused andd terrified. He grabbed a nearby pillow and hugged it close, now starting to feel the of staying up late.
“She came up to the music studio, without her baseball cap,” Airyan continued. Asher’s eyes grew wide, knowing very well that Mysteria almost never went anywhere other thann the stadium without her cap, due to the crazy fans. “… came right up to the room I was in and began to yell at me.” Airyan sighed, takig a moment tto eat some popcorn.
“I barely even reacted to what she was saying. At some point, she had enough of my crap and smacked me.” Airyan finished, eating some more popcorn.
Asher sat there silently, resting his chin on the cool fabric of the pillow, thinking.
“She was crazy mad though. She was yelling at me at the top of her lungs, and she looked like she could’ve cursed like a sailor. She could’ve killed me if I wasn’t related to her! And she called me names, like spineless ninny, a shrimp, a loser, a wimp, I think..” As Airyan listed off the names, he noticed that Asher wasn’t really saying anything and was looking straight ahead. “Asher, you okay bro?”
Asher slowly began to get pale, as if he just realized something. He turned to Airyan before quietly saying, “Dude… I think… I like Mysteria.”
Airyan blinked, not entirely able to understand what Asher just said. “You have… a crush… on my cousin? The baseball prodigy?? My only cousin?! Didn’t you hear a word I said about the story where she smacked me?!”
The figure skater shook his head in frustration. “No, I was listening to the story. I just don’t see it the same way ad you do.” He sighed, hugging the pillow tighter. Airyan watched him attentively, curious about what he had to say.
“Mysteria might be a hot head who could probably kill us if we make her angry enough, is the best athlete out there, can show that she is more capable than what you might guess… but she’s also the modt caring person I’ve ever met.”
Asher paused to get a good look at Airyan, who was still actively listening. Seeing that, he continued. “She cared enough about your well being to go all the way to you, knowing her busy schedule and the risk of getting noticed by the public. She donates money to the orphanage she used to live in and puts up with your collab photoshoots to help raise money for that orphanage. She cares a lot about her dad, and not to mention, she is clever. And yet, some of these things she doesn’t want to be recognized for.” Asher stopled, thinking over what he just said.
Airyan began to grin from ear to ear. “So you really do like her?”
“Yeah..I think I’ve had a crush on her for a while, now that I think about it…” Asher shyly admitted.
Airyan patted him on the back, still grinning.
“Asher, you’re perfect for her.”
Because I can’t write how cool Asher looks when he skates T-T
Mysteria quietly entered the ice skating rink, taking a seat nearby. The girl decided to visit the rink where her new boyfriend practiced ice skating, as told by her cousin Airyan. And he was right. Asher was in the middle of the rink, a hand on his chin as he pondered over something. He was dressed in black sweatpants and a white V-neck, looking somewhat professional and laid back. Mysteria watched curiously, not able to help but wonder what he was thinking about.
A minute passed when Asher suddenly threw his hands down to his sides, pushing himself with his right foot against the ice, slowly raising his arms up . As he slid across the ice, he spun around and pushed himself harder to gain more speed. He pushed himself once more, before pushing himself off the ground and spun in mid air, before landing hard on the ice, almost falling over. He picked himself up to pace again while regaining his balance. He stopped pushing himself through the ice to let the speed slowly die down as he did some large and graceful arm movements, but after a while he frowned and grunted, suddenly deciding to spin around a few times in place as he thought over something again. He skated a bit faster, widening his stance and how wide his legs are, crouching slightly as he pushed himself. He stood back up again and picked up the pace, before leaping and twirling in the air once more, landing on his left foot without faltering. He continued to do this several times to get the hang of it, it seemed, before moving on to the next move.
Mysteria continued to watch, impressed by the way he moved on ice, even with the mistakes that he was making. She smiled to herself as she thought about how lucky she was to be with such a talented guy. The sudden scraping of ice interrupted her thoughts and made her realize that she was staring at empty space, looking at the rink once more to find Asher laying on the floor, slowly sliding into the wall of the rink. Mysteria covered her mouth and stiffled a laugh, not wanting him to find out she was there yet.
Asher irratatingly grabbed onto the wall, shivering slightly as he frowned. “I have to get this right..” Mysteria heard him scold to himself as he slid himself backwards on the ice, back to the center. He began to skate around the rink, facing the inside of it as he tried to figure out movements.
Watching in awe, Mysteria admired Asher from afar, a bit too much to even notice that he finally saw her in the audience when he skated around the rink, looking outward this time.
“Mysteria?? What are you doing here?!” Asher called out in shock, his face beginning to get slightly pale as he quickly stopped.
“I wanted to see my boyfriend in his natural habitat… Is that wrong?” The girl responded innocently, walking over to the rink entrance as Asher skated to her.
“No, of course not. I just wished you could’ve told me beforehand so I could show you a great performance.” He sighed, rubbing his neck before hugging Mysteria and held her at arms length, giving her a mildly concerned look, his eyebrows coming together as he smiled nervously at her. “But uh… How long have you been sitting there?”
Mysteria shrugged, taking his hand in both of hers to warm them up. “I don’t know. Longer than you’d like, it seems.” She replied, giving her full attention to warming up his hand. Asher smiled down at her. “It’s not that. I just wasn’t expecting you to be here.”
Mysteria smiled back and hugged him. “Do you want to get pizza?”
“Wow, great way to keep up with our diets. It’s not like we’re athletes or anything.”
“Oh shut up.” Mysteria laughed, lightly punching his arm. “Do you want to or not?”
“Of course. But um… He’s not going to be there, is he?”
“Elijah? Who knows. He always figures out where I am somehow.”
“Oh. Well, I guess let’s just go then.” Asher sat down at the bench and took off his skates.
Mysteria watched him, getting a bit shy. It’s only been two days since they started going out, and knowing that was making her more aware and slightly nervous. “H-Hey, Asher?”
“You looked great on the ice.” She said sincerely and quietly. Asher looked up at her and gave her a grin. “Thanks Misty.”
Mysteria blushed slightly, wanting to say more. “R-Really, Asher. You looked amazing… I-It kinda… Um…” Mysteria began to stutter, rubbing her elbow as she looked at the ground.
Asher raised an eyebrow and took off his other skate, standing up. “Yeeeees? You can say it Mysteria, I AM your boyfriend after all.”
Stubbornly, Mysteria huffed, crossing her arms and turned her back to him. “It makes me feel really lucky to be your girlfriend, okay?? And don’t start thinking that I will start saying stuff like that a lot more, because I won’t!” She exclaimed.
Asher smiled brightly. “Aw, I feel the same way!” He hugged Mysteria tightly from behind, lifting her off of her feet. “I get to date a cool baseball player who could make a home run any day!”
Mysteria squeaked and laughed hysterically, attempting to gets his arms to release her, but he was too strong. “Let go of me, you dork!”
“Alright, fine, but only because you’re a princeeeess!” He sang, quickly letting go of Mysteria and ran to the front lobby.
“Hey!” Mysteria shouted, running after him. “Get back here, Twinkle Toes!!”
Mysteria walked around the basic hotel room, nervously waiting for her turn to use the laptop that Jordan and her share. Traveling to the other side of the room, she looked out to the window to see the city lights below. She sighed and drew open the curtains, pulling them out of the way so she can have a perfect view of the city. Mysteria felt calm watching the city below. It reminded her of Asher, which instantly made her blush. She vigorously shook her head and occupied herself with something else.
As she adjusted the lighting so that only a single bright lamp was on, a knock came from her door.
Mysteria sprinted lightly to the entrance and opened the door quickly.
“You done already?” She asked to a surprised Jordan, who held an open laptop on his open palm, his free hand still held in a fist as if he was going to knock again.
“Y-Yeah? I was talking to Asher, he said he wanted to talk to you?” Jordan gave her a confused look. “Why are you all jumpy all of the sudden?”
Mysteria shook her head, taking the laptop from the coffee skinned boy.
“I’m good. You can go back to wherever you came from. Go!” She shooed him away, attempting to push Jordan out again using her back side.
Mysteria quickly shut the door and looked at the laptop monitor, seeing that the chat was still up. It read the words “Call ended: 25 min, 11 sec” Mysteria huffed, then sat on her bed as she logged out, signed into her account and typed.
Misty_Water-Type: Hey Asher, you up?
AshKetchup: Well duh.
AshKetchup: Video chat?
Right after Mysteria sent that, a new window popped up announcing that Asher was calling. She accepted the call and a second later, Asher’s dark hair and seemingly pale face showed up on her screen, with Asher looking at himself in the camera, frowning slightly as he tried to fix his hair.
“Hello twinkle toes, looks like you’re having fun there.” Mysteria greeted as she laid back on the pile of pillows behind her, pulling up her knees.
Asher messed with his hair, shaking his head like a dog a few times. “Don’t judge, it’s hard to keep this hair looking good.” He replied once he stopped, now looking at Mysteria and smiled.
“So how’s Oceana treating you? Are there singing sailors like they say in the movies?” Asher asked excitedly, his face being illuminated by the screen and a low light in front of him.
“Oceana is really pretty but so far I haven’t seen any singing sailors, but the team and I had this snack-” Mysteria reached over to the night stand and grabbed a bag of stringy dry stuff that looked like cheese. She held it in front of the camera and showed Asher the packaging, which had a picture of a squid on it.
“Someone gave all of us a bit of this dried squid, but we didn’t know that’s what it was, so some of the players ate it without a second thought then gagged!” Mysteria sniffed the bag and made a face, causing Asher to chuckle.
“What did you do?” He asked.
“I smelled it first, of course. Then j gave it back. I was actually smart enough to inspect the snack and ask for the packaging to read the ingredients to see what it was!” She laughed with Asher.
“I, for one, love dried squid!” The boy exclaimed excitedly. “You better save me some Mysteria!”
The girl threw her head back and laughed. “You can have all of it, I don’t want any of this.” She replied. “Good thing I’m coming back tomorrow.”
“Oh… Speaking of that…” Asher suddenly stopped smiling, beginning to get serious. “I… Want to talk to you about something…”
Mysteria frowned slightly. “Is something wrong? Did something happen to your grandmother?”
“N-No, no! My grandma is fine, better even.” Asher looked down, messing with his T-shirt. “It’s um… Better if I talk to you personally.”
Confused, Mysteria scooted in a bit closer to the laptop, concern washing over her face.
“Asher, if it’s really important, you can always talk to me now.” She said reassuringly. Asher looked down, before glancing up at her, making his puppy eyed face for a split second before smiling.
“It’s not what you think it is.” He replied, looking down once more. “When you come back, I’ll explain everything.”
“Alright, if you say so.”
Asher slowly grew quiet, and after a minute, Mysteria began to get fidgety.
“Oh gosh, please don’t be like Airyan on his first breakup!” Mysteria whined, catching Asher by surprise.
“What? No way!” He said in his defense, laughing. “No disrespect to him, but I don’t want to be like him if that meant I have to suffer from your wrath!”
“Hey, what’s that supposed to mean?!” Mysteria asked, crossing her arms.
“Oh nothing, other than you have all the qualities of an angry bull!! If I didn’t know you that well, I would’ve assumed that you’re half bull!” He taunted, smirking as he watched Mysteria try to protest.
“Am not! You’re the half animal here!” She stopped, face palmed and laughed. Asher laughed with her.
“What was that Mysteria?”
“You know what I meant!!” She cried, laughing.
He chuckled. “Yeah I do. Well, looks like I have to go to bed. I’ll see you tomorrow then…” Asher sighed, rubbing his eyes.
“Yeah, and you’ll tell me what you wanted to talk to me about, right?”
“Of c-course. It’s… Really important… U-Um, bye Mysteria.” Asher managed to stammer out and quickly turned off the webcam before Mysteria even got to say goodbye back.
The girl sat there for a minute, trying to process what had just happened. Asher was acting really weird. She wanted to know why already, but she knew she would have to wait. Him not talking to her as long as other calls and even acting nervous towards her had her worried.
Mysteria set the laptop on the nightstand, and got herself comfortable underneath the covers. Looking up at the ceiling, she thought over her plans for the next day, slowly letting sleep take over.
The Canava Pandas were getting out of the charter bus one by one, Mysteria being the third one out. Hoisting her bag up on her shoulder, she found Asher and Airyan in the crowd of fans and reporters. She ran to them, leaving Jordan to run after her.
“You’re here!” Mysteria exclaimed as she hugged the two boys. Asher timidly hugged back, rubbing the back of his neck while Airyan got excited.
“I saw the game on TV, you were amazing! Congratulations on the big win!” He exclaimed. “You have to show me the trophy sometime!!”
Mysteria laughed slightly, looking at him warily. “Yeah of course.. Hey Jordan and Asher, can you get my bags for me? I’m really sore and exhausted.”
As both guys nodded and ran to get her bags, Airyan smirked and pulled the reluctant Mysteria to the side.
“Mysteria, I have something to ask you.” Airyan began. “You have to give me an honest-to-God answer, and don’t be mean about it okay?”
Mysteria frowned, beginning to get skeptical. “Okay, what is it?”
“Do you want to date Asher?” He whispered to her.
Mysteria froze. Was she hearing that right?
“D.. Date Asher? I-”
Before she could even finish her sentence, Asher ran up behind Airyan and pushed the singer out of the way, taking Mysteria’s hands into his. In a deep voice and with the manliest face, he said, “Mysteria, will you go out with me?”
Mysteria blinked and progressively began to turn red, taking a second to process what was happening. “Asher, I-I don’t-”
“I promise to bring you kolaches every morning and help you with your daily stretches.” Asher continued, slowly beginning to lean closer to her. “I’ll take you go peaceful places when you’re stressed, and take you home at night and give you all the love and care you deserve!”
At this point, Asher was already in Mysteria’s personal space, but not quite in her face yet. She was still trying to keep up with the sudden chain of events. She kept his words in her mind, trying to think over her decision. Asher gave her an adorable begging face.
“So what do you say? Will you go out with me?”
Mysteria was quiet and slightly blushing. Asher was still holding her hands, continuing to give her a begging face. She looked over his shoulder to see Airyan and Jordan eagerly waiting for her answer. Mysteria looked down at their intertwined hands and blushed more.
“I… I don’t know Asher… I…”
Asher looked into her eyes and gave her a genuine smile. Mysteria trailed off, looking down at his hands again and noticed how warm they were, and how she was having a warm and fuzzy feeling in her chest. Mysteria hesitated but smiled.
“Alright Asher, I will date you.”
“Wooooo!!” Airyan cried out, fist bumping the air. “Finally!!” Jordan joined in, causing both Asher and Mysteria to blush heavily.
“You guys planned this, haven’t you?!” She exclaimed in frustration.
Jordan grinned while Airyan cowered behind him. “That’s for us to know and for you to find out!” Jordan shouted, pushing Airyan to make a run for it.
Asher smiled nervously at Mysteria. “Um, not to be awkward or anything, but do… you want to go somewhere to eat later? I can pay for everything and-” Asher stopped abruptly as Mysteria laughed.
“Do you really think I’m going to let you pay for everything? But sure, let’s go out to eat. Does Chato’s sound good?”
Asher blinked and smiled. “If that’s what you’re up for.”
Mysteria blushed slightly, then looked up at him. “So… 6 o’clock?”
Asher nodded and looked over at her bags. “Do you still need help with those?”
Mysteria bit her lip and hesitated. “I’d rather make Airyan help me with them. He’s going to drive me home so…”
“I see. I’ll see you later.” He said quietly, kissing her head as he left.
Mysteria blushed as she watched him leave, turning to Airyan, who returned from running away. He stared at her with a knowing smile. Annoyed, Mysteria flicked his forehead. “Come on, I’m really tired and I want to take a nap.”
Asher was dressed in casual clothing, consisting a jacket, a white T-shirt and casual pants. He held a lime green pot with 3 bamboo shoots in it, tied with red ribbon. He looked at his watch and waited for his date to arrive, which was still hard to believe.
Mysteria arrived in a hurry, wearing a baseball cap to hide her hair, a black hoodie, and jeans. She smiled nervously as she approached him.
“Sorry for not actually looking like a girl…” She said. “You know how it is with the fans.”
Asher chuckled. “You look fine. Besides, I wouldn’t want you to be uncomfortable in our date.” Asher replied, shyly adding the last part. He smiled at her for a moment before remembering the gifts he had.
“O-Oh, I almost forgot!” He pressed the potted plant into Mysteria’s hands, touching them briefly but with lots of care.
“Huh? What’s this for?” Mysteria asked, thoroughly confused.
“Well,” Asher began, starting to smile. “Instead of bringing flowers, I thought you’d appreciate the bamboo a lot more,” He smirked before adding. “Panda Hero.”
Mysteria’s eyes widened and her cheeks turned into a light shade of pink as she laughed. “Thanks Asher, I love this so much.”
“I originally wanted to get you a panda cub, but I’d be getting in legal trouble, and then you’d have trouble feeding the cub, and you probably have lots of explaining to do with your dad, sooooo,” He opened up his jacket to reveal a small stuffed panda, giving it to the girl. “I got you this.”
Mysteria laughed and took the panda. “This is so thoughtful, I really wasn’t expecting this!” She exclaimed, holding the bear close.
“I knew you’d like it. If I wanted to date you, I HAD to know what you like. Am I right?”
Asher gestured to the doors of the restaurant. “So let’s go enjoy authentic Mexican food!”
Mysteria shrugged. “I was wondering when we’d ever go in.”
Asher puffed out his cheeks. “Well, sorry for trying to be thoughtful!”
Mysteria rolled eyes and took Asher’s hand. “Come on, Twinkle Toes.”
Elijah closely watched through his binoculars at Chato’s, hiding in the balcony of a vacant apartment. Watching the green haired girl and the ice skater through the window, Elijah began to get suspicious.
“Maybe this is a celebration dinner of some sort…” Elijah muttered to himself, continuing to watch. “Jordan and Airyan must be coming later or… Maybe they got busy…”
Elijah put the binoculars down and squinted his eyes.
“I’m going to have to talk to Mysteria tomorrow about this…” He said finally before going back to his binoculars to watch Mysteria laugh at something Asher had said.
Mysteria laughed, eating her rice. “I hope Elijah doesn’t find out about this, he’d get really upset with me.” She sighed. Asher smiled and waved off the subject. “It’ll be fine, I can always deal with him for you.”
Mysteria blushed slightly and smiled into her cup that was raised to her lips. “So now you assume yourself to be my boyfriend?”
Asher blushed massively and covered his mouth with a napkin.
“I-I mean, if you’re okay with it, but, I would be really happy if you were my girlfriend.” He stuttered.
The girl thought about the idea, stirring her food around with her fork. “It’s a bit too soon, don’t you think?” She asked quietly.
Asher slowly nodded. “I know but I also know that you didn’t reject me like I thought you would… Which means you do like me, don’t you?”
“That’s… Not a lie..” Mysteria replied, before taking another bite of her food.
“What do you say? Do you want to be my girlfriend?”
Mysteria looked at Asher and smiled tiredly. “Sure, I’ll be your girlfriend, just because you asked nicely.”
Asher laughed at Mysteria and held her hand reassuringly.
“Now for the hard part. Telling your dad.”
Mysteria walked alongside Asher and Jordan, the three of them sharing a bucket of popcorn from the stadium vendors.
“You’re gonna love the game!” Jordan exclaimed, taking some popcorn from Asher.
“Am I really?” He asked, offering the bucket to Mysteria.
“I guess if you have an open mind about it, you being a skater and all!” Jordan replied.
Mysteria stayed quiet, looking at the ground as she walked and completely ignored them.
Asher frowned and waved a hand in front of her face, getting her attention.
“What? Did you guys say something?” Mysteria asked.
Asher pouted. “We’re talking about tomorrow’s game! You know, the one you told me that I should go to ?” He shook the bucket of popcorn in front of her to keep her focused.
“Oh, right. Jordan?” Mysteria looked over at her partner, who did the same.
“Get him a good seat, okay? Give him the special treatment and everything. Also,” Mysteria ran a hand through her hair, groaning slightly. “You gotta help me practice, and then get ready for the interview… Then…” She stopped once she caught Asher staring at her in disbelief.
“You have to do an interview?!” He asked, genuinely surprised.
Tiredly, Mysteria smiled and did a half-hearted hairflip.
“The first female baseball player in a major league, ALL-MEN team, a rookie who is already on her way to MVP in baseball.”
“Not to mention, she’s related to Airyan Yoichi, sooooo…” Jordan added, shrugging slightly.
Asher blinked. “Wow, all of that huh?”
“Yes, but it’s very stressful sometimes. I love the game and all but this publicity is getting a bit out of control.” Mysteria complained, dismissing the topic by swatting the air away. “Enough about that, we need to plan out tomorrow’s game, and-”
“Mysteria!” Asher yelled out, making her flinch.
“Whaaaaaat?? What is it?” She asked, annoyed. “I was trying to-”
“That’s so much stuff to worry about!” Asher exclaimed.
“Gosh, you’re starting to sound like my old man.” Mysteria sighed. “I know it’s a lot of stuff to do, but it’s a price I have to pay for wanting to be a baseball player. Just-” Suddenly turning towards a bush nearby.
“Elijah, I know you’re there. Get out. Now.” Mysteria ordered, crossing her arms. A dark haired Mongolian teen around the same age as the trio slowly emerged from behind the bush.
“Hello princess!” Elijah greeted casually, as Asher frowned and went up to her. “Um, who is this?”
“My name is Elijah Brown, Mysteria’s boyfriend!” The teen declared, throwing an arm around Mysteria’s shoulders, giving Asher and Jordan a toothy grin.
Mysteria grabbed his arm and twisted it, causing Elijah to say “Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow!” repeatedly, with Jordan chuckling. Asher watched in horror and amazement.
“He’s NOT my boyfriend, thank you VERY much.” Mysteria glared at Elijah as she said the last part before letting go.
“Th-That’s my girl!” Elijah laughed as he rubbed his injured arm.
Asher tilted his head slightly. “So who is he exactly?”
“Mysteria’s crazy stalker.” Jordan replied. “Casual stalker who really likes her.”
“O-Oh… Well, that’s… something.” He said with a nervous smile. He turned to Mysteria.
“Mysteria, I know you’re busy with all the stuff you have to do, but… Can I take you somewhere before you have to do all that stuff? That can’t be good for your mental health doing it all at once with no break.”
Elijah immediately stood in between them, flailing his arms. “Whoa, whoa, whoa! Who said you can go on and steal my girl away?!” Elijah shouted before Mysteria pushed him aside so she can look at Asher properly.
“What do you mean take me somewhere?” She asked, looking interested.
Asher smiled and shrugged, rubbing the nape of his neck. “It’s someplace that you need to see for yourself. It’ll help you become less stressed, hopefully.”
Mysteria blinked. “Um, as long as I get home before it gets too dark… I can go with you after the interview. Does that sound okay?”
Elijah tried to get in between them again, furious. “I forbid you to do anything like that Mysteria!”
Asher smiled at her. “Take your time, there’s no rush.”
Mysteria pushed Elijah out of the way again before addressing to Jordan. “Jordan?”
“Got it.” He replied as he headed towards the locker rooms. “I’ll tell Coach about you taking a break.” He waved a hand as he left.
The girl turned back to Asher, a smile of relief and curiosity now lighting up her face. “I’ll see you after the interview then.”
“I’ll be waiting.” He replied, smiling back.
Mysteria got out of the conference room that they had in the stadium, rubbing her face with a wet wipe as she tried to get the makeup off her face. She let out a long sigh and headed towards the exit where Jordan and Asher were waiting.
The two guys were standing under the shade, looking like they were talking about something either serious or petty in Mysteria’s opinion.
As the girl approached them, Jordan quietly said something towards Asher before he patted him on the back.
“The Princess is here, that’s my cue to leave.” He announced, slightly tipping his baseball cap to Asher and Mysteria. “I’ll see you later!” Jordan then jogged to the direction Mysteria came from.
The other two teens were now alone, one of them still curious.
“What were you and Jordan talking about?” Mysteria questioned. Asher smiled knowingly, pressing a finger to his lips.
“It’s for us to know, and for you to find out.” He said playfully, leaving Mysteria frustrated for a moment.
“Keeping secrets from me now?”
Asher chuckled, then motioned her over. “Come on, we should hurry if you plan on coming home before dark.”
The girl rolled her eyes, then followed, catching up to his side.
Walking through town, the two enjoyed the walk to their destination, pointing out things and talked about small things. Asher would look at Mysteria every once in a while to see her expression, which remained equally interested as when he first suggested to go with him.
“It’s not far from here now Mysteria.” He assured her after a while.
Mysteria looked back at him and smiled. “I’m enjoying myself now. Walking around town is something I don’t do often.” Mysteria admitted, looking at the nearby buildings.
Asher blushed slightly and began to get restless, unable to contain his excitement. “You’re gonna love this then!” He exclaimed happily, taking her hand and pulled her across the street with her taking a bit to keep up.
Arriving at a small forest, Asher led Mysteria through a faded path that led north into a clearing.
“This is a place that no one really visits,” Asher began to explain, Mysteria attempting to take in the scenery. “I go here whenever I’m stressed.” He realized that he was still holding her hand, immediately letting go. “O-Oh, sorry about that… Got caught in the excitement…”
Mysteria took her hand back, felling how warm it was. She looked at him with a laugh. ” Scared that I’ll get lost, or is this a date?” She teased, continuing to follow him.
“No, I just don’t want you to miss this.” He said with a bright smile. Mysteria and Asher both got to the top of the hill, which overlooked the south side of the city below. Cars were speeding around with the usual traffic, people scurrying, some hanging out or taking a walk. Buildings were shimmering in the sunlight, some even reflecting the light like mirrors. All throughout the city were dots and splashes of color made by modern artists and people showing their support for an event.
Mysteria marveled at the sight, speechless. Asher stood next to her, smiling brightly. “See what I mean when I said you had to see it for yourself?” He asked, turning to look at the city below them.
Mysteria stared at the landscape for what seemed like forever, before she looked around.
“Let’s sit down. I want to stay here for a while.” She requested, slowly going to the ground and sat herself down.
“Of course, we can be here as long as you want.” Asher replied, sitting next to her, almost touching shoulders.
The two were at the hill for an hour and a half before Mysteria decided that it was time for her to go back. She was leading Asher this time, making her way to her house.
After a few blocks and turns, they made it to Mysteria’s neighborhood, then to her street.
“Thank you for that.” Mysteria said quietly after the long silence. “I really needed some time to relax.”
Asher smiled. “I’m glad that you enjoyed it. Having a busy life like yours isn’t an easy one to have..”
Mysteria led him to the steps of her house, before stopping at the one before the entrance door.
“Do you want anything?” Mysteria offered, motioning to the door. “I can get you something to eat, unless you’re thirsty or something.”
The boy laughed and shook his head, grinning. “I want you to sleep.”
Mysteria puffed out her cheeks and put her hands on her hips. “You’re telling me what to do now after I tried to be a good hostess? That’s not how it works, Jack Frosty!”
The door opened right after she said that, and Mysteria turned to Hibiki who was wearing an apron.”
“Old Man!” Mysteria greeted.
“Hello Misty, and…” He paused, looking over Mysteria’s shoulder. “Mysteria’s friend?”
Asher’s eyes widened and he immediately bowed. “My name is Asher Leon, sir.” He introduced himself in a nervous tone.
Hibiki gave him a skeptical look. “Mysteria?”
“He’s the friend that ice skates, I told you about him, Old Man.” Mysteria reassured him.
“Oh! I remember.” Hibiki nodded, but his skeptical look came back. “What were you two doing?” He asked, suspicious.
“I was helping her not be stressed out!” Asher blurted out. “She had so many things going on, I wanted to take her somewhere calming so she can relax.”
Watching Mysteria nod in reassurance, Hibiki smiled at Asher. “Thank you. It is very much appreciated.”
Asher bowed again. “My pleasure. Um…” He got upright and smiled sheepishly at Mysteria. “I’ll see you tomorrow then?”
“Of course. Bye Asher.” Mysteria replied, smiling back. “Oh, and by the way, don’t be so uptight with my old man. I call him Old Man for a reason.” Hibiki chuckled at her comment, crossing his arms.
Asher laughed slightly, then bowed once more to Hibiki, who waved goodbye to him as the teen left.
Entering their home, Hibiki grinned at Mysteria.
“I like him.” He said simply as Mysteria blushed ever so slightly but attempted to brush it off by rolling her eyes and shook head.
“What? He’s very polite and he took some of his time to help you relax. You should keep him close, Misty.”
“That is why he’s a friend, and good friends do stuff like that.”
“That’s true I suppose.”
Mysteria huffed. “Old Man, don’t start getting ideas!” She exclaimed, taking the kitchen towel that was in his hand and swatted him lightly with it, making Hibiki laugh.
Mysteria massaged her knee, covered with a knee brace. Wincing, she hissed and bit her lip as the sharp pain traveled in her knee.
The morning air was crisp and cool, and everything was quiet and serene. It was too early for anyone to really be out in the train station, with the exception of the early morning workers commuting to work.
Mysteria silently waited for her train to come by, while debating on how she was going to get on the train without help. The baseball game against her rival’s team, the Lukio Tigers was a very tough game. Although Mysteria managed to get to the final base and saved the Canava Pandas from having a tied game, her leg was the ultimate sacrifice for it.
As Mysteria browsed her phone, reading the texts from Hibiki, she noticed in the corner of her eye a teenage boy sitting on the bench next to hers. She thought nothing of it and went back to the texts.
After a bit, she took a glance at the boy, noticing that he has black hair. She blinked and slightly tilted her head just a bit. Black hair… Nice.
Some time passed and soon the sound of a locomotive began to get close. The boy slowly stood up, adjusting his backpack strap as he rummaged in it. Mysteria sighed slightly and very slowly pushed herself off of the seat and onto her feet rather shakily.
She gasped in pain, quickly taking her backpack and limped towards the arriving train.
Mysteria was halfway to the train entrance before she turned to the black haired teen.
“Yes?” She replied with gritted teeth, pushing a bit of her faint British accent.
“Do you need help walking?” He asked, gesturing to her leg.
Mysteria got surprised, turning towards the teen. “Thanks, but I’m fine. I’m stronger than I look.”
“Alright, if you say so. Can I at least help you with your backpack?”
Mysteria blinked and slowly shook her head. “It’s okay, I’m fine.”
The boy nodded but walked next to her, causing Mysteria to scoot a bit away from him. They both entered the train and took their seats, Mysteria struggling to not hurt herself. As the doors closed, the bout moved in to sit next to Mysteria.
“My name is Asher Leon. Nice to meet you.” He greeted, holding out his hand to her. Mysteria stared at his hand for a bit, then took her time to shake it.
“Mysteria? That name sounds familiar.”
The girl shrugged and looked down at her leg. “Well, we haven’t met before, if that’s what you’re wondering.” Mysteria replied casually, trying to not get nervous by his remark.
The rest of the train ride was quiet and calm, which Mysteria greatly appreciated the rare occassion in her hectic life. When the train got to the city stop, she got up, and noticed that Asher was getting up too. She raised an eyebrow, getting a bit suspicious.
“You get off here?” She asked.
Asher nodded. “Do you?” He smirked. “Or do you plan on following me because I look cute?”
Mysteria immediately got flustered. “How about I follow you into a parking lot and beat you up?”
“Whoa, calm down, I’m just teasing! I didn’t think of you as that type of girl anyways.”
Asher looked at the station and looked to the left. “I have to go towards Nemi Avenue. Where are you going?”
Mysteria looked at the right and pointed to that direction. “Princeton Street.”
“Oh, I gotcha. Well,” Asher stretched, then held out his hand, letting Mysteria take it.
“Nice meeting you. Hope to see you around sometime.”
“Same to you…”
With the last words, both teens went their separate ways for the day.
A few days later, Mysteria sat in her usual spot, patiently waiting for the train once again. She rubbed her leg and sighed, attempting to stretch it out. Another day of practice. Mysteria looked around to see if Asher was going to ride the train again. There was no dark haired boy in sight.
Mysteria sighed and slumped back in her seat. She was curious about the guy, wanting to know why he was riding the train and the like. Something about his precise movements makes her wonder if he was an athlete or something similar. Slowly closing her eyes, Mysteria tried to figure out how she’s going to perform on her practice. She couldn’t possibly ask Jordan to run the bases for her; it doesn’t work like that.
Foosteps began to approach her, and Mysteria opened her eyes to see Asher standing nearby.
He was smiling at her.
“Morning.” He greeted, going towards her. Mysteria carefully moved to make space for him on the bench before replying with a groggy “Morning”. Asher sat down with her.
He looked down at her knee and frowned. “Ouch. Still injured, huh? You really gotta take care of yourself, Mysteria.”
The girl sighed and stretched out her arms above her head. “Yeah..”
Asher puffed out his cheeks, then rummaged through his bag, producing two paper bags.
“I got you something to eat. They had some sort of sale at this bakery I go to every morning, so I figured I should… you know..” He trailed off, handing her a bag.
Mysteria raised an eyebrow and took the bag and opened the bag, being skeptical. She stared at the seemingly palm-sized smooth looking bread in a creamy light brown color.
“What is this?” She asked curiously, sticking her face into the bag and sniffed.
“What? They’re kolaches!”
“Kolaches? I never had one before..”
“Oh, well, they’re basically small loaves of bread with sausage and cheese inside, though there are different stuff that you can have in them.. Try it! It’s delicious!” Asher exclaimed enthusiastically.
Mysteria gave him a skeptical look, then took the kolache in her hands. She sniffed it a little, then took a small hesitant bite. She chewed for a bit before her eyes grew wide.
“This is really good!” She exclaimed, smiling at Asher. “Thank you for buying me this!”
Asher laughed slightly. “No problem, though if I had known that you’ve never had one of these, I would’ve got you one sooner!” He replied, taking a bit out of his kolache.
After a few moments of silently enjoying breakfast, the train arrived on schedule. Asher stood up, dusting off the crumbs before looking back at Mysteria. “Do you want help?” He asked his daily question.
“No, I’m fine.” Mysteria gave her usual reply. She pushed herself up with difficulty, wincing as she did.
“Alright, if you say so.” Asher said, frowning slightly.
Both of them walked to the train, taking their usual seats.
“Sooo, I found out something.” Asher said with a playful smile.
“What?” Mysteria sighed, thinking about the possible gossip he had for her, like he usually does.
“I found out that you’re a baseball player.”
Mysteria’s eyes grew wide, but her expression stayed neutral. She made sure to avoid eye contact with Asher in fear of having him find out. “Oh? And how did you find that out?” She asked, crumpling the paper bag into a ball before throwing it into the trash next to their seats.
“A friend of mine commented on one of your games, saying that you were a pretty good player.”
A newbie to baseball maybe. Mysteria thought in her mind.
“Good to know that you can observe things.” She replied, relaxing into her seat once more. “But I still don’t know what you do.”
“Oh… Well…” Asher trailed off. “I-I’ll tell you tomorrow.” He said rather quickly.
Mysteria looked at his slight nervous face, then smiled reassuringly.
“Sure, I can wait.”
Mysteria struggled to walk to the bench. Her leg was killing her everytime she took a step, and the pain was unbearable. During practice the day before, she tried to fake her recovery in order to play properly again. So she played and ran to a base when she hit the ball. She had thought that she could walk off the injury. Turns out she was wrong.
Painfully sitting down, Mysteria cursed under her breath. One more practice to go and she can see the doctor afterwards. Gingerly she felt her leg, finding a few spots where it hurts the most.
Growling, Mysteria slumped back into the seat and waited.
Five minutes later, Asher arrived at the station just as the train came rolling in with a screech. Mysteria took her time getting herself up without hurting herself more. Asher jogged over, seeing her in her current state and began to get concerned.
“Mysteria, do you need help?” He asked worriedly. Mysteria shook her head.
“No thanks.” She said firmly, taking a step forward then winced and cursed under her breath.
Asher watched her take more painful steps. Watching the green haired girl be in pain was the saddest sight anyone could see. The agonizing look on her face, the limp, the way she had to move while attempting to spare herself from anymore pain to her injury.
He couldn’t take it any longer. She was straining herself to her limit. Asher sprinted forward and stood in front of her, arms stretches out at his sides to block her from going further.
“WHY WON’T YOU LET ME HELP YOU?! YOUR LEG IS OBVIOUSLY GETTING WORSE!” Asher exclaimed.
Mysteria was taken back with surprised, but immediately responded.
“I’M FINE, I DON’T NEED HELP!!”
“LET ME HELP!”
“NO!” Mysteria began to sprint towards the train, but yelled out in pain and staggers.
Asher gasped and attempted to catch her in his arms as she fell. Mysteria saw that and threw herself out of his reach, making him lean too far in and both fall to the floor.
Mysteria gritted her teeth and breathed heavily while Asher sat up, rubbing his head.
“Take my goddamn help next time!” He hissed.
“Hell no!” Mysteria growled, still gritting her teeth, being in so much pain. “If you’ve left me alone, we wouldn’t end up like this!”
“I was trying to be nice, but you’re so stubborn, I might as well be talking to an angry BULL!” Asher shouted.
“FINE! IF YOU WANNA HELP SO BADLY, THEN CARRY ME!” Mysteria yelled out in frustration and in pain.
Asher stood up and rolled up his sleeves. “Fine, I guess I will.”
Mysteria looked at him with disbelief. “W-Wait, are you rea- AH!”
Before she even got to finish, Asher placed an arm around her shoulders, and another one underneath her legs, being careful not to hurt her again. He picked her up with ease, starting to walk quickly to the train.
Mysteria blushed deeply as she was being carried away to the locomotive. After a few seconds of confused shyness, she managed to stutter out a comment.
“W-Wow, you’re not as weak as you look…”
Asher shot her a look, then smiled and rolled his eyes, entering the train and carefuly sets her down on the seat.
“Looks like it’s time for me to let you in on my secret.” Asher replied, tilting his head while placing a finger on his lips. “I’m a figure skater. All of this,” He rolled up his sleeves more and flexed his arms, attempting to show her his muscles. “This is all muscle. And you’re fairly light.”
Mysteria continued to blush, but not as muchas before. She smiled and let out a tired laugh.
“That explains a lot, Jack Frost.”
Mysteria stormed towards Airyan’s room, pushing through the crowd of reporters and fans that waited for him. She kicked the door open, pulling up her sleeves and closed the door shut behind her.
Airyan was sitting on a chair, his head hung low as he gloomily stared at his phone. The green haired girl stood in between him and the table and crossed her arms. “Airyan Haruko Yoichi, what in the world is wrong with you?!” Mysteria demanded, causing Airyan to flinch slightly at the sound of his full name.
“Nothing” he said in the most quietest, monotone voice.
“Nothing?! First, I find out that your dumb little girlfriend broke up with you, and you cried like a baby for a while. Then, I heard that you cancelled a show, and that you don’t even want to sing karaoke. And now,” The girl began to gesture in large motions to the door, unable to control her anger. “You’re not even doing your job at all?! Ignoring your coworkers, AND your fans?! This is ridiculous!! Airyan, you little shrimp, you better explain to me what is going on with you, or so help me-”
Mysteria stopped suddenly, noticing that his stare never left his phone. She growled and snatched away the phone without a second thought. “Look at me when I’m talking to you!!” She yelled frustratingly. Airyan slowly raised his head and sighed.
Mysteria growled, clenching her fists tightly. “What is WRONG WITH YOU??” She yelled, stomping her feet. “This is not like you!! You’re not even talking to me in full sentences, much less reacting!! Why is this girl so important to you anyways?? You didn’t even broke up with her!!” Fumbling, the girl managed to get into his messages and read the last one out loud. “‘I’m sorry but I want to break up with you. It’s not you, it’s me. Don’t call me anymore, we’re through.’ What the- SHE EVEN USED THE MOST CLICHE LINE!! AND SHE BROKE UP BY TEXT?!” The girl exploded. She took Airyan by his shoulders and shook him hard. He only acted as a ragdoll.
“Airyan, I swear, if you don’t get back to normal, I will smack you so hard that you will turn bald or something!!” The boy looked at her indifferently, foreign to his happy, cheerful nature. Mysteria trembled with rage. She raised a hand up and-
Nothing but a red mark left on his cheek. Mysteria yelled out and shook him again. “You idiot!! All of this for a stupid GIRL!!” The boy continued to stare at her with almost lifeless eyes. “Look, I don’t know why you’re acting so strange. And I don’t care. What I want is for my stupid annoying cousin to go back to his normal self. If that means that you need to take some days off from your performances, FINE. Don’t mope over an idiot who doesn’t know a good guy even if it hit her. She’s not worth your time or energy anyways, and besides, you’re acting like an emotional girl on her freaking period, crying and eating a tub of ice cream. Man up already!”
“‘No’? ‘No’?? So you’re telling me that you’d rather be a freaking crybaby and let your career and life get away from you, all because your first girlfriend broke up with you? Is that it?” She asked harshly, with a hand on her hip as she stomped a foot into the table, facing him and pointing a finger at him.
“Listen to me, you spineless ninny. You may be a famous singer, but you are MY cousin, and that means you have to be as great as me!” Immediately, Mysteria grabbed his shirt. “Because you are my cousin, I will NOT tolerate you being a lazy idiot who is mourning for his ex. You know very well that I was right about her, but even then you can’t even move on in life. There are so much more important things that matter more than this or even you.” Mysteria pushed him back into his chair and growled. “You’ve been a whiny girl for too long now. She broke up with you two weeks ago. If I were you, I would forget about her. But seeing that you won’t even do that, I guess I’ll leave.” With that, the young baseball player turned and left, sliding the phone across the table. She stormed out of the room and through the crowd, before Elijah began to follow.
“Wow, you looked worked up princess! Want me to-”
“Elijah, I swear, if you bother me right now, I WILL pummel you.” She replied in a hard tone. “And DO NOT call me princess.” Mysteria continued to storm out of the building, leaving Airyan to watch her from his window, rubbing his cheek.
Mysteria frustratingly took her bat from the rack, her expression neutral but her eyes were lit with rage. As her teammates watched in confusion, Mysteria swung her bat a few times.
“Jordan, come on.” She ordered, walking through the curious onlookers, who got out of her path’s way.
Jordan let out a sigh and nervously puts on his glove, punching into it with his free one. “Coming!”
Once they finished their stretches and warm-ups, Mysteria swung her bat over both her shoulders, a dead look of anger plastered on. Jordan attempted to give her an encouraging smile, but ended up giving her a small nervous one. He really didn’t want to feel Mysteria’s wrath, but he didn’t really have a choice either, in his own free will and because they were partners.
Jordan pitched the ball at Mysteria and she blurred into a really fast flash, then all of the sudden, Jordan was barely able to catch the ball before it hit him directly to his face. He bit his lip in pain, shaking off his gloved hand.
“Yo, Panda Hero, calm down!” He shouted at her. The green haired girl blinked before realizing what she was doing. She growled, now gripping her bat firmly in one hand.
“Sorry Jordan!” She sighed, watching the bright red head approach her.
“What’s wrong? This isn’t like you.” Jordan asked quietly, but was then surprised by his fellow teammate.
Mysteria yelled. “My freaking cousin, dude! He’s the problem! I don’t know what to do with him! I tried doing everything I can do to help him feel better, but he won’t even hold a f- fracking conversation! What the f- uuuuh freak am I supposed to do?! This is all so weird, but why does this have to happen??” Mysteria began pacing around as she spoke, swinging her bat around dangerously.
Jordan watched but backed up a step before she accidentally hit him with strong force. “Um, which cousin is it? And um… Why are you angry at him again?” Jordan asked meekly.
Mysteria threw her head back and groaned. “Airyan, man, who else! He broke up with his stupid girlfriend and now he’s acting all mopey and depressed, and I HATE it! I literally tried to make him happy, but everything I did, he just doesn’t want to do!!” The girl continued to pace around, swinging her bat around even more.
“I even offered to sing with him!! Can you believe that?! And you know how he responded??”
Jordan got startled by the unexpected question and got nervous. “U-Um… He didn’t-”
“HE. RE-FUSED!!” Mysteria shouted, interrupting him in mid-sentence. “That’s not my cousin, that’s an imposter!! Someone took my cousin and it’s just… UGH!!!”
Jordan slowly approached Mysteria, placing a hand on her shoulder. “I’m sorry that this is happening to you and that your cousin is acting weird,” He began, not sure if it was the right thing to do. “I think you should distance yourself from him or else you’ll explode. This could be just a phase for all we know.”
Mysteria looked over and sighed. “Yeah… You’re right. There’s no reason for me to be worked up over this.” She replied, slowly letting her bat drop to the ground.
“Y-Yeah! Don’t worry about it,” Jordan nodded, then got quiet again. “… Um, I think you should go home and rest. You must be exhausted from this, and besides, your dad would get worried if you keep this up.”
Reluctantly, Mysteria nodded in agreement. “I’ll have to apologize the team for my mood…” Jordan smiled and gave her shoulder a squeeze before accompanying her to the locker rooms.
Mysteria threw a tennis ball against her bedroom wall, laying upside down on her bed.
“Dinner is almost ready, Misty! Come on down and wash up!” Hibiki called from the kitchen.
Sighing, Mysteria got out of her bed and stretched, taking deep breaths before she heard a familiar voice that made her stop.
“Hello Uncle Hibiki. Is Mysteria home?” The voice said. Mysteria frowned as she slowly made her way down.
“Oh, hello Airyan! She came home early from baseball practice, said something about getting distracted and couldn’t concentrate.” Hibiki explained, setting up the table. “Why don’t you join us for dinner?”
Mysteria got to the foot of the stairs, leaning on the wooden rail. “Yeah, join us.” She said in her British accent, before turning to normal. “What are you doing here, Airpunk?” She asked coldly.
Airyan got startled, quickly spinning around to look at her. He was wearing his usual shirt and pants, with sunglasses resting at the top of his head.
“I’m… I’m here to apologize.” He said hesitantly. Mysteria raised an eyebrow. “I wasn’t acting like myself, and you were just trying to help me forget about Angel and-” Mysteria groaned and rolled her eyes, interrupting his ramble.
“Idiot, you really need to stop this melodrama.”
“Wait, wha- OW!” Airyan yelped, rubbing his shoulder where the female had punched him. “Forgive and forget yeah?” She asked, watching him expectantly.
“Y-Yeah, I deserved that, and that slap…” He said sheepishly.
“Misty!! You know it’s rude to hit people!” Hibiki called out from the kitchen, pouting.
“I know, I know!” Mysteria sighed, turning to Airyan again.
“Forgive and forget?”
